A split of epic proportions, Polish black metal delivered in just four tracks, two from each of the contributing bands, Angrrsth and Czort.

Angrrsth opens the proceedings with ‘Petla’, a muscular and aggressive blast of violent and hostile black metal with a definite Behemoth esque undertone, specifically more so when the almost preaching screams appear from the darkness. The track is constructed of technical fretwork and drum efforts worthy of praise for the speed and ferocity with which they are delivered. The whole track is calculated and layered in its deliverance, there are layers sat upon layers and this only goes to create a beast which is deep and intriguing beyond its initial makeup.

The second sacrifice from Angrrsth, ‘Przerwana’, is grand and majestic with more hyper drumming from the kit. The vocals seem to be conjured up with more spite and malice, delivered with absolutely toxic venom and spurred on with the almost enchanting guitar work. Again we see more regal vocals interspersed amongst the raw and dirty vocals, I cant help but summon up images of Nergal when the cleaner and more ostentatious vocals are being served to us. The track is complex and diverse while keeping the essence of a maniacal and possessed effort at the forefront of the track with an absolute riot kicking off behind it.

The helm is then swiftly occupied by Czort who have brought a similar yet differing take on the rawness that black metal can be afforded. The vocals are cleaner than those that have just departed although there is definitely an air of coldness and bitterness to the words being expelled, it’s just a matter that they are perhaps more calculated and measured. ‘Zrodlo Upadku’ is mature and layered with captivating drum work which is less obvious than that of Angrrsth yet it is definitely no less brawny or dedicated, whilst the string work is more deliberate and military in its marching style.

‘Ofiara’ opens up with a little more subdued essence about it before the vocals join the battle and add a more possessed and vulgar degree about it. The whole package is definitely more melodic and thought provoking than its predecessors, more of a track where you can ignite a blaze, burn the incense and sit back with a fine single malt in order to let it wash over you in order to give you the time to appreciate the developed mellowness and decadence for what it is.

This split package is perhaps a tale of two halves with neither one of them claiming victory over the other. Each bring their own strength which only compliments the other and although it is only a brief four tracks long, it is enough to allow you to be completely taken over with Polish black metal of differing designs.

A resounding success in a compact, perfectly formed E.P. if you enjoy your black metal then this is one to perhaps put on the radar.
