Satan and gore, what more do you need in your music? Well maybe a bit of the old Texan Brutal Death wouldn’t go amiss. Such is the case with our unholy disciples of the day Desecrate The Faith. Having formed in 2012 the band have steadily climbed the ladder. Their 2017 record Unholy Infestation marking their signing to the mighty Comatose Music. Now they’re back on the label again with their third full length, imaginatively titled III. Will this gospel of perversion serve to rule in hell? Or will they be forever cast down?

Idle Creatures is the first to smash in. The clean-cut production actually works wonders on the guitars and elevates them from a general mush of brutality to something so much more intriguing. Indeed when combined with the classic 90s style gutturals there is a hook heavy blend of crushing BDM laced with an air of modernity. Blood Scriptures sees that we get a hardy fix of speedy Death Metal whilst Wretched Feast plays far more upon ideals of great catchy guitar parts and an absolute mastery of the drum kit. Arguably one of the shining tracks of the whole album. Upon A Slaughtered Clergy brings the first half of the album to a close. Ushering in a concept to follow of songs over five minutes. It might not sound like a big deal but in my past experience longer doesn’t always mean better in the case of BDM. However the blistering Slam power of the aforementioned song certainly serves to prove me otherwise.

This Butchered Earth being the longest song on the album and only taking this titanic BDM sound further. Insanely good riffs, a super tight solo and a totally epic delivery. The sort of material that doesn’t try too hard and yet pulls off that huge arena style sound, truly marvelous. I really don’t know what more there is to say. This is a record that refuses to dive into boredom at any point. Tracks are continually varied in style but similar enough to flow perfectly, possibly one of the best BDM albums of the year.

I try as any reviewer should to look at the good and the bad in every album I review. Now and then though there is nothing to be found but praise, these rare little gems fill me with joy and III is such a case. I haven’t been bowled over by sheer musicianship like this in a while. There isn’t any self-indulgent Tech tomfoolery nor is there anything particularly new or strikingly different. What there is however is a nudge, a nudge in the right direction for the future of BDM as a genre, utter perfection.
