As you are all probably aware this German band has taken their band moniker from a song by Autopsy on their ‘Mental Funeral’ album and has become the most prolific of the couple of acts using the band name, the other being Greek. The duo of Jens Finger and Bernd Reiners have three full lengths and a few splits/EPs already under wraps and whilst their release rate isn’t the highest I’ve seen in death metal the quality is absolutely assured on everything they’ve put out, indeed I’d even say the band has some of the best old school deathliness knocking around on all their previous endeavours. The previous album ‘Ancient Death Triumph’ was indeed a triumph of the genre and one of the best albums in the death genre of 2020 as they continue to unveil gritty fine filth infused death metal on this fourth album.

With a retro 80s like intro the album bulldozes into life with ‘Mauled’, offering grisly riffs set against their unwavering catchiness as the pair know exactly how to construct infectious death metal tunes. With a rugged yet clear production the band has enhanced the sense of groove throughout as ‘Coffined Saviour’ follows in pure gruesome fashion. There are Autopsy touches splattered about here and there as the vocals possess the resounding bellow proper shouters of the genre require but retaining clarity of diction. Speedier and more aggressive ‘Necromantic Visions’ smashes into the listener unleashing an awesome riff break matched by the drum density which augments all the songs to a battering assault throughout.

There’s no weak tracks on the album, each one as addictive as the next as ‘Grave Nihilist and ‘Pestilent Tombs’ offer a double tap to the cranium with the former being grislier and slower and the latter constructing some eerie atmospherics via the guitar work and multiple drum fills to empower the track. The title track is excellent too, with hints of Grave and the uglier side of Swedeath the song has a penetrating slowness that encases you in a miasmic deathly sludge, but couples everything to excellent tempo dynamics. Favourite on here is ‘Drown In Filth’ a speedier effort that thunders along with remorseless gutturalness before the album ends with ‘Parasitic returning to an Autopsy feel, crushing you to a pulp with its monstrous riffing and rhythm section. However tagged on the end is a cover of Carnivore’s ‘Predator’ done the Slaughterday style with the sound plunged into that oozing deathly sludge but retaining the songs core melodic elements of course.

Yet another fine album by Germany’s Slaughterday one that fans of Scandinavian death metal should be checking out and those who like the death metal submerged in a vat of grimy noxious filth.
