There are times in life when you question your choices and I have to say that sitting here and thinking “I am reviewing a band called Eggs Of Gomorrh…” was one of those. But it was a positive choice as both US black/ death filth and noise merchants Weregoat and the equally sulphurous aforementioned Eggs were not unknown to me.
So, seven tracks, less than half an hour of depravity, noise and filth? Sure.
First up Weregoat who certainly have great taste in cover artists having used the legendary Rok and the brilliant Kerbcrawlerghost before, and kick off with a sample and ‘Bitch & Inquisitor’, a low-end pummelling kind of akin to Teitanblood playing at twice the speed. Chaotic vocals, slow almost Hellhammer like sections and it’s a good warning for the rest of the split. ‘Rites Of Cuntrition’ pretty much follows on nicely, squealing guitars, whipcracks, the works. And finally ‘Demonic Triphallus’ has a deeper, darker feel an atmosphere if possible, a weird but superb nasty filth spreading groove and echoing guitar. Oh the finish on a fantastic low and no mistake; malevolent, twist and primitive. Awesome.
Eggs Of Gomorrh begin with ‘Impotent Rebirth’. A far more death metal sound, shuddering machine gun bursts riff and blasting drums. ‘MST1:4’ pretty much follows the blueprint; brutal and to the point. ‘Beyond Filth’ and ‘Expire’ round off their assault. They have a simple raging attack, a full on roar that has no resistance and simply blows you into raw meat gobbets.
For me the more variation in the songs, and particularly their last track give Weregoat the edge for my tastes but both bands turn in spot on examples of their craft. 7.5 for Weregoat, 6.5 for Eggs Of Gomorrh so for the split a solid..
