The Metal or Punk divide is a great struggle for me, I mean don’t get me wrong it’s not like the two tribes are at war with one another but they seem reluctant to co-exist sometimes. I love classic 70s Punk as much as I love 80s Heavy Metal, it’s all good fun, high energy music and I really do encourage Metalheads and Punks to support and get into each other’s music. Naturally when there is a great marriage of the two then I get very excited such is the case with today’s band.
That band is none other than Faeces Christ the German Metalpunk madmen who have climbed steadily up the ladder since their 2018 inception. Being impressed with their 2019 EP I was eager to check out more of the bands Horror infused Grind driven brilliance. As such I now have the pleasure of delving into the band’s debut full length from F.D.A. Records, Gimme Morgue!
‘The Goatsee And The Goat’ (great title) opens up some groovy Grind goodness, lots of ‘oh ee oh ee’ style rhythm, you know what I mean right? Guitars are typically a fuzzy mess and the vocals are much the same. It’s Punk, it’s Crust, it’s Grind and it’s total degenerate filth, perfect. In further scum comes ‘Fulci Lives’ a fitting tribute to the Horror mastermind, once again more fast paced Punk Grind fun. Longer songs like ‘Cadaverous Erection’ feel like padding for the album but none the less it’s to be expected in a Grind heavy release such as this, you’ve got to have the ‘long’ songs, just give me like forty tracks of Grind thanks. ‘Menstrual Cup’ is a total banger though. I’m not saying that anything over two minutes is bad, I just feel like Faeces Christ would shine brighter with a more rapid-fire delivery.
‘Rest In Piss’ is exactly how I want my Grind dose, snappy, nasty and to the point, this is what Feaces Christ are all about to me, ‘Parasite’ is another prime example of just how great this band are. Keeping things nice and groovy however is the fantastic ‘Melted To Slime’, it does what it says on the tin and is a horrible display of sludgy grime, marvellous. The album closes nicely with ‘Video Nasty’ and ‘Embalmed In Vomit’, a couple more crushing blows of the Grind driven skull.
Feaces Christ proved themselves with Eat Shit And Die! But Gimme Morgue! Is a far more well-rounded and well delivered piece of nastiness. I love the grit of this band, they appeal to a lot of my Metal/ Punk roots in the same way as Midnight or Nekrofilth. For me to put a band in the same league as those two really does say something I’ll assure you, keep your eyes and ears peeled for the coming of the Feaces Christ!
