Never a band to shy away from experimentation, Full of Hell’s 12 year trajectory is littered with collaborations with the likes of Nails, Merzbow and The Body, each one leaving behind their influence which can be heard on subsequent releases. Forever pushing boundaries, never settling on a single niche, Full of Hell are one of the most innovative acts taking up residency in the realms of both noise and grindcore.
Latest effort, ‘Garden of Burning Apparitions’, spares no prisoners as it launches with a 10 second bloody curdling scream from vocalist, Dylan Walker, before a pummelling wall of riffs descends. Combining grindcore, death metal, noise rock and hardcore, this dynamic of this album pendulums from crunchy, almost catchy noise rock guitars to passages of sinister ambience. A constantly shifting soundscape is aided by the inclusion of both bass clarinet and saxophone.
The only thing predictable about Full of Hell is that what they have in store musically is totally unpredictable. This constant state of chaos is what makes them genuinely one of the most interesting musical acts of their era – neither heavy for heavy’s sake or avantgarde for the sake of being pretentious. This is a group of individuals who share a collective love of all things musically extreme and demonstrate a skill for pooling their influences in order to create music that leaves a lasting impression.
