LLNN are a band whose growth in popularity has been equally as explosive as their signature sound. Encompassing all the best bits of hardcore, post rock and industrial, these innovative Danes won over crowds at Roadburn three years ago, while maintaining a steady stream of releases since 2016. Sophomore release ‘Deads’ is considered to be a seminal record for the band, however, third and newest effort is undoubtedly their heaviest work yet’. ‘Unmaker’ is likely to be the making of an act who’ve already shown incredible potential.
Volatility blasts forth the instant you press play, coming close to knocking their air from your lungs with brute force. Christian Bonnesen’s throaty roar rages alongside his breakneck speed riffs, while drummer Rasmus G. Sejersen’s assault on percussion keeps pace with precision. The aural assault does occasionally yield, however, moments of respite can be found among Ketil G. Sejersen’s command of the synths. Striking a balance between brutality and beauty with densely packed atmospheres and layers of sonic texture.
There’s a palpable maturity to the songwriting abilities of LLNN – while most bands will opt to go for the jugular, unrelenting in their pursuit of eardrum battery, this four piece thrive in their ability to know when to pump the brakes. This is coupled with a raw enthusiasm that makes them truly unlike any other current post hardcore acts and is what will keep fans coming back. ‘Unmaker’ is a remarkable effort and a definite must listen for 2021.
