Let’s get one thing straight from the outset…Ten Foot Wizard are wicked good fun. Their oozy mix of party sized doom loaded with groove and funky swagger is damn infectious live. With “Get Out Of Your Mind”, the third album of their career, we find them in rather rude health. After an appearance at Glastonbury in 2019, they’ve started to garner the attention of a wider audience and have carved out a well deserved name for themselves.

Frank Zappa quirk meets Clutch groove on opener “Namaste Dickhead”. Funky and heavy, it immediately shows off what is fast becoming the bands signature sound with an eclectic mix that just works. Hints of Red Hot Chilli Peppers sexiness appear on “Broken Man” which is swathed in a 70’s funk psychedelia before a swing back to a chunky rhythm with wah soaked lead guitar. A climactic, heads down pile driver of a riff finishes it off before the strutting “Noble Lie” where a laid back early ZZ Top buzz meets a slinky Queens Of The Stone Age styled delivery.

The album brings together an irresistible set of influences while all the time delivering a sound that is remarkably individual. From the pop rock sensibilities of “Summer Love” to the thunderous riffage on the title track, no song overstays it’s welcome and there’s always a slant into big, heavy grooves. Two standout tracks for me are “How Low Can You Go” and “Working Towards A Bitter Future” where filthy riffs full of pace and neck warming fury are delivered in abundance. “Load” era Metallica sized chugs morph into the swampy, thick sound of Weedeater showing off the bands roots. Closing track “King Shit Of Fuck Mountain” is the longest with eight a half minutes of glorious Sabbathian influenced riffage and pretty much sums up what this band is all about.

Well, the lads are back. Happy days. Ten Foot Wizard have crafted an album that quite simply brings a smile to your dial and makes you want to move. Most importantly it continues to display an individual sound and marks another step forward in their journey. Definitely a band to keep an eye on, they could well be Britain’s answer to Clutch such is the way you can revel in their infectious music.
