Another sell out show, courtesy of Old Empire, sees All Pigs Must Die return to London for one of the most manic evenings the Boston Music Room has ever seen. Local lads, Dripback, open the show to a sparsely populated crowd. Their combo of death metal and hardcore creates a racket that’s energetic and entertaining to watch. However, it’s disappointing to see an audience that’s completely unmoved by the ruckus occurring on stage. It’s painfully apparent that the few in attendance so far are here just for the headline act.
Liverpool’s sludgy grindcore five piece, Corrupt Moral Altar, receive a slightly better turn out and reception. The epitome of pissed off sounding music, the band play aggressively rhythmic up-tempo riffs completed with blastbeats aplenty. An audial fist to the face for all those present, this is an eardrum punishing performance that takes absolutely no prisoners.
15 songs. In an hour long set All Pigs Must Die manage to pack in 15 songs. They tear through the venue like a wrecking ball, playing to spectators who are literally having to climb onto furniture to cram themselves in for a decent view. An endless sequence of crowd surfing and stage diving turns the front of the stage into a flurry of arms and legs. The comradery between the band and those watching adds a sense of community to an atmosphere that is otherwise angry and violent, with vocalist Kevin Baker holding his mic out to onlookers at various points throughout the set, to help fill in with vocals. The whirlwind of pounding hardcore punk is brought to a truly chaotic climax as the band round off the evening with ‘Hungry Wolf, Easy Prey’ and ‘Articles of Human Weakness’. A ferocious assault on the senses that won’t soon be forgotten.
