Returning after 7 years, Invasion come back with a more refined logo but the same theme with their WWII inspired death metal. Following on from a review I did some 7 years ago, Invasion haven’t changed what is not broken, they have produced much of the same low end heavy old school death metal. This time rather than a pure Swedeath sound, they have classic USDM included too. You may even spot a touch of guitar melody too, certainly on ‘A Satisfying Death’.
Business as usual could sound harsh, but I don’t find anything wrong with that. Bands can change after such time periods, Invasion stick to a formula that works. Of course, it’s not rocket science, other bands have come along and pushed boundaries further, but with their ‘Iron Bottom Sound’ and when they invite you to ‘Play the Devil’s Piano’ you have material that you can rely upon. Granted, it maybe not as exciting as first time around, but ‘Destroyer of Mankind’ is very reliable with plenty of references to Hail of Bullets and some of the Swedish old guard and back across the channel to England’s much missed Bolt Thrower. The mix is cool, earthy and heavy, the production is strong overall.
Don’t expect miracles, expect death metal patterns that have ignited your senses for years, key is the stories that are portrayed and the execution is what you will come to expect. A solid release, but not a standalone effort by any means.
