Since their inception, High Spirits are a drug you can’t live without. Chris Black’s vocal tones are fantastic, precise and warming, this album really feels like a seasoned part of your collection from the first run through. It is Instantly catchy and memorable, but special highlights coming out of ‘Do You Wanna Be Famous’ and the speedier ‘Flying High’ make this further up your list of favourite albums. ‘Reach for the Glory’ expands the range of melody whilst you swing your hips and tap your toes, but it’s no weak effort. Compared to ‘You Are Here’, it retains the commercial appeal but I find this a touch harder in presentation without losing the accessibility of the band, something that previous efforts have built up. Here you also have a logo change, which some of you may have noted.
The fun and frolics will come to many a listening party (local social club with a pint of mild!) when this gets out into the wild blue yonder. It’s a fun album and the quality retains a perfect level of professionalism. The sound, the structure and the delivery are all top notch, you will quite easily forget about a couple of glitches I hear in some of the solo work from time to time!
As the PR material suggests, ‘Motivator’ is colourful, faster than their previous release and a really uplifting album filled with hook after hook in the tried and tested High Spirits style. A full (not just 2 or 3 cities!) UK tour will happen next year, so go and check that out if you will! Other than that, buy this!
