This is the fourth release from Finland’s Anal Blasphemy which is the putrid spawn of Molestor Kadostus – a one man kvlt band here. This a raw and spiky, living up to Molestor’s self labelled “Bestial Black Metal Filth” . The Darth Vader sample that opens things up is a surprise but any lack of faith I had in Western Decadence providing a cloven hoofed kick in the nads is soon blasted away. The title track erupts with blastbeats before slowing into a swinging melodic section before taking off at double speed again. There are elements of doom and Hellhammer in here alongside 2nd wave BM nastiness and the drums sound more organic than on most one man projects that I have encountered.
If you can say “I am the Claw of Vengeance” without squeezing an invisible orange and looking to the bastard Nazarene above you are a greater person than I. This is balls out thrashing black metal for headbanging and moshing to, pint in hand sloshing about sending your corpse paint to the four corners of your face whilst your spikes entangle in the hair of the person next to you. Get the picture?
“Pleasures of Flesh” slows things down with a dirty chugging riff giving a surprisingly open and airy sound to what I was expecting to be quite a claustrophobic album. “Smear myself with pig fat” eh? Kinky devil! As would be expected with a band called Anal Blasphemy this track ends in a frenzied climax before things take a surprising turn on “….and God Punished Them” It opens with what sounds like a Hammer or late 60’s Italian horror sample before going …well gabba/industrial . It sounds ok just a little cut and shut for my tastes. Reminds me of some of the filler Carpathian Forest used to pad their albums out with. It just doesn’t seem to fit with what went before.
Normal satanic service returns with “Massturbation for the Virgin Whore” with its sludgy riffs and throatily incanted vocals. Imagine Satan’s Wrath, Bathory and Akercocke in a satanic moulinex and you will get the idea. “Believe in the Devil” that follows is a bit of a dirge and lacks the sense of fun and raw spirit of the other tracks. I’m an atheist but I thought this devil worship malarkey was meant to be fun ?
“Satanic Credo” consists of what sounds like Kodo drums and Molestor stating his personal beliefs in the horned one. If I was 14 this may be cool but there is little atmosphere here and it makes Come to the Sabbat by Coven seem authentic.
The Outro “Western Chastity” is a sequence of spacy electronica with what sound like crickets in the background whilst the repeated sample “ Do you prefer a good boy or a bad boy? …Well…I like a good boy but sometimes I get bored.” Well I am a bit bored by this bad boy. Shame really coz when Anal Blasphemy get it right on Western Decadence they are a blast. Trim off the fat and this is a damn great blackened EP . Molestor can write a riff and has the hooks the hang his satanic robes on. Too much padding in the leather vest though.
