Full Frontal Face Fucker’s are a heavily pornography inspired death metal band. Now before you roll your eyes, sigh and say ‘But half of Death Metal’ is porn inspired or porn themed’, this is slightly different. Sure, there is the very heavily violent and sexually degrading lyrics which will make some people giggle and some people extremely angry (perhaps rightly so, but this is neither the time nor the place for such a discussion!) and there is the gory artwork of a spunk-soaked zombie girl on the artwork… Yes, I can hear you saying ‘nothing new here…’ but the difference is that this is what the band call, *clears throat* ‘A Cum-pilation’ of their work so far. With song titles which read like a more perverse version of The Bloodhound Gang, possibly tongue in cheek, or possibly ‘for the bantz’, it did raise a slight chuckle out of me, but that was about it really. Initial impressions aside, sets see what this group have tossed off for our ‘pleasure’ (?)
Well, it’s nothing new or standout… Just bog basic death metal by numbers. The obligatory use of samples heavily features along with the usual and expected raw vocals, pounding drums and heavily distorted guitars. Whether the seemingly low quality sound is supposed to be like that, or it’s just the quality of the mixing is up for anyone’s guess, but much like the lyrical content and song titles, it’s rather crude.
With the majority of the tracks being between one minute and three minutes in length, you can tell it’s a rapidfire approach. With a real crusty feel to it in the rawness and even some punk-like rhythms, it does fill a gap but nothing really stands out. “Joint Effort” feels like a dirty punk track, “Wait For You” is a stereotypical breakdown and riff laden effort with growling vocals and “Fuckhole” is really.. loose? It’s hard to accurately describe, but think of a really poor version of Discharge and you’d be thinking along the right lines.
Despite the rather amusing (and personally, I think it’s a fantastic track title!) “Cumdropper Showstopper” doesn’t really stop any shows of sorts. It’s got a decent groove but thats about it. The dirty, crusty tone might sound the part with the lyrical theme, it just doesn’t click. “FacialBook” doesn’t suffer the same way luckily for it and it actually sounds really tight in the delivery which is something to enjoy, but thats about it really.
I’ll be honest, it’s not even background music… It’s just… There. Consisting of several ep’s and demo’s flung together to make a full length anthology of sorts, it seems more as a way to get more attention rather than to try and refine the sound. Whilst it was novel initially, it’s not really much fun to listen to unless it was one of those ‘4am in the morning and I’m still on youtube playing related video hoping and seeing where I end up’ type discoveries but even then, the novelty would fade afterwards.
Overall, this is just a poor all round effort. Whether this is supposed to be a parody of the more lyrically extreme side of Death Metal or not is a different discussion, ‘Deathspunk’ as FFFF have aptly named their genre isn’t worth anyone getting in a mess over if it gets on the bedding or the curtains etc… Save yourselves… Listen to The Bloodhound Gang instead, at least they have some catchy moments even if they just repackage the same album every time!
