Black Metal Punk from Finland. Now those five words have either sent you scuttling off to the next review or have piqued your interest. I played a track from this album “Nailgun Crucified” on The MattCave this week during the review section HitorMiss. I was the only one who loved it – it was roundly derided by studio panel and listeners alike. Pfffft what the fuck do they know?
This is nine songs of prime metallic fun. They are called WomitAngel for badness sake! Much more punk than the usual blackened thrash that is doing the rounds. This three piece – W.Horepreacher, J-Violator and Vile Anarchy (snigger- but it would have been worse if they were called Johannes, Nigel and Jan – get with the programme) channel Carpathian Forest and the Exploited in their bile soaked blasts. This is not music to peruse and pontificate, swilling around the aural pallet like a fine wine. This is a flaming slippery nipplegasm served at three in the morning with a pork scratching covered in hairs as a chaser. Get it down yer!
These Finns are at their best in short bursts as in the aforementioned Nailgun Crucified and “Skin ‘n’ Fuck”. The latter could be an Agnostic Front track before the black metal rasps and shouts of SATAN kick in. There is even an old school NYHC beatdown in it! It works! “Nailgun Crucified” starts with a bible quote that sounds like it is from a Fulci re-dub and then delivers a thrashy slice of Black/death that is over before you can get into the groove. One for the rewind my selecta! “Nekrofillian kutsu” starts like Wattie and co before branching off into Carpathian Forest territory with the hint of Circle the Wagons era Darkthrone.
“I Come With A Murder” ups the death/thrash anti with riffs that would not be out of place on an album adorned with acid green logos , radiation symbols and K’s instead of C’s . The riff and chorus is catchy as the common cold though and will have you humming it before the song is through. This is extreme metal to grin to. “The Witchhammer” follows leads to the title track “Holy Goatse” (why the e? ) Pedal to the metal, silly satanic lyrics straight out of Dennis Wheatley and B movie samples of women moaning and screaming – super!
Then a secret track! Well actually two tracks merged into a one- minute blast of hardcore. These are covers of tracks by the Finnish hardcore band Terveet Kadet who apparently were a great influence on the young Max Cavelera. Talk about wearing your influences on your sleeve. What a way to end this album. 60 seconds of rip roaring heads down hardcore, done straight up .
Holy Goatse is nothing new. No magical formula or clever marketing. What it is however, is 9 tracks of honest , in your face , spiked glove up the bum , black metal thrash that flobs a grolly at all the po faced kvlt losers and scene poseurs.
Go get a taste.
