Considered_DeadIt’s no surprise that this debut EP from this Brazilian quartet, named after the first Gorguts album, sounds like classic (Schizophrenia / Beneath The Remains) era Sepultura. In fact the influence is worn so obviously on their sleeves that it’s a wonder it doesn’t get knocked off with all the frenzied head banging this EP is sure to generate both from them and you!

Old sounding music played by young looking bands seems to be the thing at the moment which is all well and good if it’s done well and with respect… which this most certainly is.

After a brief, standard issue ‘spooky keyboard intro, we’re off, banging our heads like loonies at the instrumental title track  as the massive drums of David Araya (no relation) and thrashing riffage of Marcos de Vale and Pedro Dias pick us up in a total whirlwind of hair, tight black jeans & converse hi-tops. Things slow down to a snail’s pace with a crushing doomy riff before they get the fire under their arses again and we’re speeding off!  This is proper old school deathly tinged thrash the way you want it, pure Sepultura / Slayer plus the opening riff to ‘Graveyard Mind’ reeks of classic Exodus and wouldn’t have been out of place on any of their early LPs as would some of the guitar work on ‘Impulse Resistance’.

Overall this EP is a great example of a young band playing what they (and I) love with a passion. Production of Pedro Capaca & the band is bang on. The record sounds solid and in your face and the cover art by Dedy Bedic is superb.

Well worth a punt if you want to re-live the g(l)ory days of proper nasty thrash.
