DeconstructFollowing closely to last year’s 3 track EP ‘Year One’ comes the second EP from extreme progression experts Deconstructing Sequence. This time they only serve us with two tracks (clocking in at around 16 minutes in total runtime), but what a great couple of tracks they are.

First up is ‘A Habitable World Is Found’, opening with a 2001: A Space Odyssey sample (“My God—it’s full of stars!”) it’s soon clear to hear that they haven’t strayed far from their original path of intergalactic, progressive death extremity. Resplendent as it is in its spacey atmosphere, replete with spoken space station style chatter crackling through the alienesque riffage and coldly claustrophobic synth soaked melodies, it can really blast some technical riffage too. As the voiceover turns towards the discovery of the new world mentioned in the song title, a euphoric end to the song bursts forth, echoing melodies ebbing and flowing as if signals being received from the deepest depths of the galaxy – a really strong start to this short EP. To finish is ‘We Have The Access Code’, with growled vocals, chuntering rhythms and staccato natural guitar harmonics powering together from the off, before slowing like the ever expanding edges of the universe, desolate buzzing bass and cooing melodies adding a melancholic edge, before the song retracts violently onto itself with chaotic guitars and growled vocals once more to finish up.

Simply put – Deconstructing Sequence have done it again, very much garnering my close interest for their future works. Their material stands apart as its own entity sound wise, marrying the most interesting bits of Arcturus, Aborym and Nocturnus into a most impressive amalgamation of star bound brilliance. Now the question is; when are they going to stop teasing us and release a full length album already?!
