Peru’s traditional metal explosion includes the like of Lightning and this band Cobra, their previous release was very limited in distribution, but if you want to check out where it started, I would recommend tracking down ‘Lethal Strike’.
‘To Hell’ is the latest effort to tickle ones traditional metal appetite. It does have a rather annoying long intro, but once it gets going you can really get to grips with this young bands vision of the 80’s. You hear Maiden with ‘Beyond the Curse’ with a splash of Riot/Leatherwolf and US power metal, you hear Saxon during ‘Danger Zone’, you even hear some sunset strip music with the melodic flow that ‘When I Walk the Streets’ belts out. ‘Fallen Soldier’ has plenty of NWOBHM/Speed Metal appeal to it, the sound may be a little rough around the edges, but this works out great for the listener. It is very raw, it’s energetic, it’s a metal soundtrack that you should really own.
If you are a fan of twin guitar riffs and lead breaks, a touch of bass guitar exhibition, then you are in for a treat. The whole of this album is pretty awesome, it’s no wonder they will feature at next years Keep It True Festival in Germany, although there will hopefully be a couple of opportunities to play this little island I am sure.
No tricks, no sound effects, no bullshit, this is straight honest metal that has its roots in the early 80’s British scene and one foot in one of my favourite areas mid-80’s US Power metal. This is a cool release; Cobra should be another of these bands you should be talking about and who are clearly not afraid to play their metal hearts on their sleeveless denim jackets.
