DoAgh it’s bitten me I’m going to die? Ah well that’s handy as the band’s name means “to die” but I’m far too young for that, having been fanged by some horrid creature this band put in with their CD. Ah hold on its plastic, that’s OK then, so thanks to Finnish trio from Hell…Sinki (their pun not mine) for including a plastic beetle with their disc. Hopefully their music will not bug me (my pun not theirs).

What we have here are three tracks on this self-titled, self-released EP which last a somewhat humongous thirty minutes running time. Grindcore this is not! If you took a guess at billowing bong music though you would be spot on as the fuzzy bass trembling groove of G.O.D. plumes out the speakers it’s like taking a mighty hit of smoke into the lungs and holding it in as long as possible. The central riff is a tenacious one and it loops around and around for the duration. Drums beat out slowly along but it is the vocals of oral messenger Deaf Hank that catch surprise as he throatily wretches out his first words with horrifying dread behind them. ‘There’s something in the woods!” count me as scared. There’s plenty of definition vocally and they build up to some pretty impressive shrieks too as the song continues to tremble along. I would guess this is stoner music designed to chill the bones as it has lyrically a bit of an Evil Dead obsession and I also noted other flung out shouts like “fire walk with me” amidst the trees. The song loosens in the mid-section and goes a little redneck banjo sounding before the head nodding main riff comes back like an all pursuing demon and the song eventually comes to a halt. ‘The Await’ casually saunters in and strolls off with a strong melodic grasp behind it. “There is no light only darkness” screams those happy go lucky vocals and a classic leaden groove takes over weighing everything down nicely.

This is pretty good and sound wise it is nice and thick with plenty of bottom end making me think that this lot must suitably be able to shake the rafters when they play live. Sure this won’t reinvent any round things or anything like that but it does have solid definition and once you get used to the vocals they are pretty damn formidable especially as they unleash themselves at full strength on this second number. It’s not all doom and gloom either as stoner-fried riffs inject a bit of joviality to things and its more light and airy than oppressive sounding. Finishing off with ‘Everblast’ there’s a solid stomp about things, flamenco driven riffing and more of those growly almost beastly vocals. It certainly doesn’t give you much scope for slumbering despite a bluesy fragrant mid-section breaking it all up a little before the final assault.

Dö deliver plenty of substance with these three numbers and they gave me the munchies for more of the same, so hopefully they will get some label attention with them and be back to deliver and album and more plastic insects in the future.
