Banisher are a technical death metal band hailing from Rzeszow in Poland. They’ve been kicking around since 2005 but only released their debut album, ‘Slaughterhouse’, in 2010.
This is a very dynamic, relentless album, faster & more intense than their debut and if you like Dying Fetus & Suffocation you’re gonna love it. Well produced, with a prominent bass sound the album has a really fresh & unique vibe to it, kinda like Dillinger Escape Plan but more accessible.
We have nine original tracks and an instrumental cover of the Benny Hill theme……. Yeah, that’s what I thought. Musically, the album blasts along with enough technical proficiency to keep guitar nerds happy (the riffing of Hubert Więcek is amazing) and plenty of brutal, industrially tinged death metal for the rest of us to appreciate. The whole thing is executed flawlessly and the individual performances are spot on.
The record starts with a bang War on Drugs, which is a heads down, blasting statement of intent. This sets the pace for the whole album however these canny Poles have a few tricks up their sleeves. Track 3 – Vanity is a couple of minutes of calming, lounge jazz – more suited to the background music in a Pizza Express. And then we have the mental Benny Hill theme cover. Why? Who knows – apparently he’s big in Poland but these two tracks at least show the band has a sense of humour.
All in all a good album and well worth checking out if you like decent death metal and fancy something with a different & original flavour.
