This Brazilian band formed in 2007 and this is their debut 4 track EP. Presented in a very nice bi-fold digipak format, this band obviously takes their music seriously and this can be found when you play any one of the four tracks on offer. Their promo material appears to struggle to define their sound as this band prefers to state that it covers their broad range of interests. I take the music as being somewhere between Queensryche’s 90’s groovier output and Dream Theater by nature of the progressive music that is the general theme of the release.
Opening with ‘Darkness’ it’s clearly full of beans, full of energy with a nice amount of staccato rhythms. Vocally there are some similarities to Tony Martin’s Sabbath stint, by this is mean the precise delivery of the melodies with a slightly nasal attitude. The presence of light and shade develops atmosphere within each of the tracks as the EP progresses. ‘Blessed Life’ suits any fan of this style but I cannot help thinking that there is something missing no matter how good I find the music, for me maybe there is a change in tone required in the vocals. Even with the higher notes obtained I still feel they are within a lower register vocal range, I was expecting something that would go up even higher. But don’t get me wrong, there is nothing limited in terms of this and the rest of the EP’s tracks, just my expectations!
For all of this releases positives I do feel I want more of a punch in the sound, there is a great level of musicianship and the arrangements are more than ample, but there is just that little spark missing for me. Attractha have some nice ideas and a very professional approach to self-promotion, bands who put in the effort deserve attention and respect. Overall, what I would say about this EP is it a very respectful account of this bands musical vision.
