Bon Scott was an icon; he was and still is one of my most inspired frontmen that sadly are no longer with us. So I hear of this Swedish band Dynamite who have a style and singer that is very much like Scott, to be honest, something I never thought possible, so here it is…’Lock N Load’. Yes the rumours are true, this is heads down balls out rock n roll like Scott era AC/DC, the UK’s Meansteed and the commercial players Airbourne.
‘Stone Heart Rebel’ is boogie time, much like ‘Can I Sit Next to You Girl’ and ‘Word Hard for the Money’ is much more 90’s (‘Thunderstruck’) AC/DC but still with a classic feel. I cringe at some of the riffs and lyrics more often than not as they are so close to the Aussie legends. So is this the problem? Well, it certainly poses a pondering thought in one’s mind. I do find this a great hard rock release, but I do think Dynamite is very much like a tribute act, a pub band playing off the sound of others. Whilst the opener ‘Bullseye’ may go more towards fellow countrymen Backyard Babies debut release, the overall impression is aca-daca.
These are great tunes when you’re tanked to the limit on booze but the sobering thoughts I certainly get following numerous spins and many wandering thoughts of really wanting to give this a good shot is that it is really too close to the original and lacking a certain ounce of originality. Shameful to say I know even with the closing track ‘Dynamite’ being such a rush of excitement (but similar to ‘Rocker’).
