IntoxGermany’s Intöxicated (the umlaut making all the difference) are all about the leather, sluts, speed metal, intoxication, wanking and generally turning everything to 11. Who can argue with such a huge array of popular interests? This is the band’s debut album after a couple of demos helped them catch the eye of Hells Headbangers, and I must say it’s pretty damn badass. The childish cover art reminds me of Canadian thrash legends Razor, with a freakish wolfman sitting atop a throbbing motorbike. Yes? What of it? I’d take that over most of the smeary, vapid photoshop bullshit that appears regularly on album covers these days anyhow!

Drawing musical influence from the likes of early Venom, Bulldozer and Razor, while taking their lyrical cues from The Mentors, these guys are imbued by the sleazy spirit of Motörhead, bashing out track after track of rocking thrash/speed metal with all the drunken aggression and attitude you’d expect. “Sex Drinks Satan” opens the album with a sample (Vincent Price’s unmistakeable tones from The Masque of the Red Death) before kicking you deeply between the balls with their pounding, pick squealing, bellowed vocals, garage battered drums and cutting razorwire guitars. “Metal Porno Slut” sees the German’s jump straight into misogynistic overdrive, with such heartfelt, touching lyrics as “C’mon you little slut, I’ll fuck you in the butt!” bawled out so as to ensure they’re firmly struck off Germain Greer’s Christmas card list once and for all. “Rock N Roll Hellpatrol” has the most Motörhead sounding intro, with all those little Philthy Taylor styled drum fills and Fast Eddie sounding guitar licks that just scream Motörhead at you before your brain can even react. Basically, Intöxicated want to be the speed metal Motörhead, and to be fair to them, they do a really damn good job of it. The whole album makes me picture whisky drenched titty bars, brawls, good times, roaring motorbike engines, no regrets, broken teeth, easy women.. and the clap. I’d say that pretty much sums up a lot of Motörhead’s career, no?

Unashamedly showing their influences throughout, they even top it off by covering Motörhead’s “The Chase Is Better Than The Catch” with such love that it could almost be Motörhead if not for the vocals, which don’t quite have Lemmy’s well pickled groans down pat. So, if you’re after some slutanic speed metal, you could do a lot worse than checking these guys out. Still, this album is packed with a true rock and roll swagger, badass speed metal riffage and a common love of hedonism, and for one I hope these guys will go far.

To finish up, I’d just like to mention Motörhead one more time, because I’m not sure I mentioned them in this review so far. Thanks. Motörhead.
