LOBTwas a strange old day. First on collecting the post I find a disc by the Lords Of Bukkake and not ten minutes later I opened an email about the Master Musicians Of Bukkake. Was somebody trying to tell me something? This could all get very messy! In case you don’t know what Bukkake is I suggest very strongly that you do not go onto an image search on your PC and look it up. I will in no way be responsible for the consequences or any lawsuits. I have to admit though it’s a pretty nifty name for both bands but we are looking exclusively at the Lords and not the Masters here and if they decide to go into competition ever I am not sure I want to see the video.

Right, so over the name, time for the music from this Spanish lot. I have actually come across them before (no enough of the smutty jokes) and knew roughly what to expect. They like things slow and long (oh I really can’t win here) and as per their last two albums this one contains four lengthy songs. First one Boca Acida (Acid Mouth) starts with some severely fluttering guitars which are at complete odds reminding me of Bauhaus before they settle down and get into the power of the riff. This is sludge like doom laden stuff and although not crawling along it has a nasty acerbic feel about it along with vocals from a man sounding as though he wants to cut someone and if he cannot find anyone then he will no doubt be quite happy to cut himself. I am reminded of the likes of Big Black a bit as well as other Steve Albini sort of stuff but the album was mastered by James Plotkin which hardly surprises at all. A slow down tools (not those tools) has the song drifting along and it is all quite mellow but at not that much short of the quarter of an hour mark you don’t want to get too complacent knowing that it is going to explode and shower you in (ummm) violence before it’s done.  After slowly oozing along and throwing in some occasional psychedelic guitar riffs it finishes not doing what I expected and leaves you kind of hanging for the next song! Hereditaria comes in the form of long droning riffs and occasional drum beats then gradually screams. It’s both soothing and unpleasant and not going anywhere fast at all. This is music for serious mongers! Later (much later) some stoner licks brighten the mood somewhat but on the whole this is not an album to describe note by note as it sets into a groove and ponderously and steadfastly sticks to it.

Long sinuous guitars loop over the “I could really do with some roughage in my diet” yells from the vocalist with it all oozing at a funeral march pace over ‘Relente,’ which does not relent in the slightest for the 13 minute plus running time. Playing this a couple of times I went to put something else on realising in horror that there was another track left. It really is musical torture at times although perversely I kind of like it. It would have been far too much to handle along with the Highgate album the label also sent which another writer is no doubt wading through.

One can only respect the Lords staying power (ahem) when it comes to holding a riff and some of the sounds they wring out their instruments around them are quite enthralling. I can imagine that in clouds of dope smoke they would be quite a proposition live but you would need to make sure the bar was stocked with plenty of munchies for when they get to the end of their set. As for the last song I am just going to finish the review by saying that I’m not sticking around for the money shot. Things are often better left that way.
