Norwegian overlords, Aeturnus return with a killer album and a new line up. It’s a splendid mix of classic Scandinavian Death Metal with melodic touches and provides a crushingly heavy and dark work for those who still love the classical theme of this music. The 7th album of the Norwegian deathsters is nothing more than a bizarre and passionate work of ages. Their experience and skill is obvious, which is also being enriched by their only goal; to create good music. Of course they use motifs like some old school death metal riffage (see Bolt Thrower, Entombed, Suffocation) along with some strange black metal melodies, but they still remain a unique band with unique style and composition. The vocals add a primitive sound to the songs, a fact that makes it even better than it is! It’s further proof, that old metal bands still manage to do a better work than all the new bands together, which is sad but that’s life anyway
In the dawning of the CD, the first blast which melts the brains comes from ‘’There will be none,’’ a brutal, yet dark song. And there’s still more to follow. …And The Seventh His Soul Detesteth… Spurcitias, Ruin And Resurrect, The Confusion Of Tongues, Hubris, Reap What You Saw, Saligia, The Hand That Severs The Bonds Of Creation and The Spirit Of Illumination are the ten songs this album contains. All of them follow the same standards as the first song. Fast, dark, old school. What’s more to ask from a comeback? The melodies, especially in the 5th song The Confusion Of Tongues, creates an unpleasant sad atmosphere. This is not a skill that everyone has. A great musical change occurs when Hubris starts, an acoustic song which sounds like a traditional Spanish song. No comments, it fits great, and everyone that says the opposite thing is obviously narrow-minded.
At last, a great CD from Norway. Something we haven’t heard for a long, long time from this band. They have the plan to succeed, they have the skill and the knowledge. Let there be blood then!
