Another little tease from US doomheads Orchid. A three tracker with one from the forthcoming Nuclear Blast full length (Wizard Of War), one apparently exclusive to this EP (Demon’s Eyes) and one re-recording from the Capricorn debut (Albatross).
Wizard Of War is a groove ridden stomp that once more proves that Orchid have all the best riffs that seventies Sabbath never wrote. It is urgent, bouncing fuzz around your head like a basketball and with a tune that goes into your bones. Suddenly here, suddenly gone. Pretty cool.
Demon’s Eyes is a smoother, less hyper offering. Instead it rides upwards on a blanket of guitar runs, weaving other worldly regret around those distinctive vocals. Laid back and actually rather deceptively magnificent. Your reason to invest in the EP I guess.
Albatross has been redone, mellowed and tripped out into a sweet(leaf) haze of gentle dripping notes, smokey keyboards and hypnotic drums. Soft as a silken nest of cushions as you are waited on my beautiful servants who drift in and out of the clouds about you.
Just enough to dull the withdrawal until. The main event. Just.
It’s Orchid. It trips. Just wish they’d do a vinyl issue….
