Featuring musicians who have been a part of bands like Skullview, Nocturnal Torment, Chronic Disorder and Invasion, this is a rather different musical operation. The style is a hybrid of stoner/sludge/doom and classic Southern rock based on their older influences planned around four years ago.
With a mission statement clear, the mad intro to ‘Wizard Dust’ only does the booming musical interlude justice with a very heavy stoner driven crunch, a little influence of Down and a little heavy influence of Orange Goblin around their third release period. Taking in their groove and Southern charm (it has a Southern feel) a lazy hedonistic approach certainly enters my mind. ’75 Black Pontiac’ has major Southern blues in the in intro riff, Down/latter COC jamming with Lynyrd Skynyrd, a very authentic flavour indeed. Whilst the band professes to not rewriting the rule book in this genre, I can hear their passion and there is certainly nothing to grumble about. Trademark riffs go hand in hand with the bouncy stoner vibe that engages a massive about of head nodding and appreciation, especially when ’75 Black Pontiac’ nears its end.
‘On the Trail of Lewis Matlock’ has a really infectious grooving riff, the vocals deliver further into the southern heartland, but the overall feel and sound is upbeat fist pumping stoner, without the desert and without the endless improvisation pieces of the same damn riff over and over again. Yellowtooth vary their arrangements within each track, a little turn of speed gives way to some low end audio violence, some mellow bits and bobs and the transition is faultless. I enjoyed this album, it takes you back twelve or more years to a time when this genre really hit the big time, but I don’t find this dated, far from it. ‘Disgust’ is heavy, groovy, dirty and full of fun, it doesn’t follow trends of late, and it is a pretty damn good effort without being challenging.
