This is a new act, as the band has no listing even on Metal Archives which surprises me. This is their debut offering, an EP soaked in offal drenched steaming death metal that wears its influences clearly on its mangled sleeves. There is little in the way of outright stand alone creativity from EC, preferring to batter the listener with old school gore metal, with massive surgical disembowelment smirks at Carcass obviously. Curiously the band is fronted by Dale Linsdell of thrashers Merciless Terror and accompanied by said bands bassist Dan Oldcorn. Making up the ranks is Tom Clark on guitar and Richard Grindon on drums.
Musically this is tried and tested gore metal, with lots of exhumed and Impaled touches added for a more modern splatterfest. “Deathwork” has a guitar sound similar to the aforementioned bands, with a ton of ghastly blasting being drenched in fetid vocal vomiting. Gore metal has always finely balanced all out savagery with moments of gouging melody, taken here from the likes of Aborted from their “Goremageddon” period for the most part. “Medical Murder” is Carcass worship with rancid blasts interrupting the blistering boil incursions of saw blade guitar work and bass pummelling.
With that said the musical accomplishment is undeniable with the title track arterially spraying its guitar riffs after the post-mortem like narration sample. I’d even say the riffing owes a bit to thrash here too, though the speed is at serial killer hacking velocity. I do like the crystal clear drum sound, precise but not too clinical. The mid break riff sounds like Bolt Thrower to me, without the juggernaut double kick. Aborted is firmly and parasitically implanted on “Anaerobic Decomposition Of Organic Matter”, a phrase that is actually scientifically true for the most part. The stench of riff rancour is plainly evident with septic bass seepage and putrefying drum work all capturing the gore metal scene very well. The finale of choral vocals in the background works for me too.
I quite enjoyed this EP but whether I would want to listen to it over Aborted, Exhumed or other acts I’ve referenced is very debatable. There is nothing wrong with the music the pace is oft relentless as the closing tune is starkly like Malevolent Creations “In Cold Blood” in terms of sound and speed. The opening riff is very Vader like too and supremely vicious. If you like any of the bands I’ve pointed at then this will certainly add a nice little bit of festering mould to your collection.
