Norwegian slam death metallers Kraanium have been on the go since 2001, releasing a demo ‘No Respect for the Dead’ in 2002 then, from 2002 to 2006 the band took a break to concentrate on their other projects. Luckily the drummer at the time was interested in getting the Kraanium machine up and running again. So in 2007 and 2008 two promo cd’s were released. As well as the promo’s in 2008 their first full length album ‘Ten Acts of Sickening Perversity’ came out. A year later another album ‘The Art of Female Sodomy’ received rave reviews. In 2010 they made a split CD ‘Goresoaked Slamassacre’ with two other bands Epicardiectomy and Dormant Carnivore. Now in 2012 their third full length – Post Mortal Coital Fixation.
We start off on the titled intro track ‘Post Coital Fixation’ with the simple yet effective deep grindy riffs and only a small amount of vocals which leads into the beautifully named ‘Stillborn Necrotic Fuck Feast’. The pig grunting vocals are superb with the added bonus of some bouncy brutal riffs. Another well thought out name ‘Bursting Rectal Sores’ (yum!) gets the tin cans out for the drumming on this. The vocals sound much like me after a night of smoking and drinking with sore throat and phlegm. Lush!. The bass in this one is barbaric; definitely makes you want to scrunch your face and shout “oooooh!”. The way the end of the track slows down and goes even more messed up is cracking yet I was a little disappointed on how this one ended, maybe it was a production fail?!
‘Compulsive Mutilation Disorder’ has an impressive intro about mutilating one’s own sexual organs. Perfect! But I’m sure there aren’t actually lyrics on this one? As good a track it is, after listening to it several times and trying to at least work out one word…. impossible!. The riffs however, awesome! One of my favourite song titles on this one ‘Slurping the Vaginal Puss’ a delicious concoction of unexplainable lyrics, catchy and jumpy riffs and impressive drumming.
“What’s the difference between jam and jelly?” “I don’t know?” “You can’t jelly your cock up a dead girl’s ass!” a very fitting sample for the intro to ‘Crack Whore Pounding’. The evil riffs and pinch harmonics all over the show make this one a winner!. Then there’s ‘Coprophagial Asphyxiation’ with more grunting and sounding much like a moody teenager kicking things about.
Another one to mention due to the epic intro is ‘Orgy of Cannibalistic Fornication’ with the screams and eerie noises leading into some wicked laughs then pelting the drums… the way the tempo speeds up is worth a listen too, but apart from that the track is pretty standard sounding much like the rest, but anyhow, this genre of music tends to be samey.
So in conclusion, it’s definitely one I’d recommend. In fact, I’m going to let my mum have a listen to see what she thinks too! I bet Kraanium’s rents are proud as punch of these wonderful tracks, the song titles and imagery on the cd cover alone would make me chuffed!.
