The story of Trappazat starts in Telford, England, somewhere in the 1980’s. Following the demise of Scarab, Paul Britton had a varied career in music, and eventually got to record these tracks you have on offer here. Now, after recent Scarab releases and a stint in Solstice, these tracks are finally available, Trappazat make their impression on the NWOBHM market, and in fairness, whether it be the 80’s or now, this mother rocks like some of the best albums I have ever heard. All riffing is in the classic vein, wonderful gallops, beautiful vocal melodies, and tracks like ‘1am D.O.A.’ have something magical about them. The guitar riffs are immense, that twin guitar attack is great, and the balance of light and shade really does the band proud. In the time of the original recording, NWOBHM had kind of had its day, but now, 2012, the timing could not be better, this is an album you must hear and buy. ‘Breakout’ is a near 8 minute epic piece of well craft NWOBHM, you can hear the early Maiden influences, but the way the song is constructed, with time changes, mood swings and overall buoyant energy, I find this a remarkable piece of music, I also like the fact that the bass has been included relatively loud in the mix, that means you can hear all those fitting bass runs and genuinely feel the backbone of Trappazat. Listen to the epic intro to ‘Soldiers’, is that Paganini inspired? It sounds classical music influenced with much virtuosity, but then this is mixed straight into more classic British metal, and as I would expect, this has a real singer, someone whom can convey the emotion of some of these songs like a sip of a fine wine.
As the PR material suggests, try a google search for this band, nothing of any significance comes up, after hearing this album, it’s going to be bloody hard not to hear of them in the future, maybe British Steel or Keep It True festivals will warm their ears to these sounds, who knows, all I know, for a healthy slab of NWOBHM, you need to own this album, its puts the UK back on the map of music greatness, although not a new songs, these have been recreated and sorted out for this release, Trappazat is a stand out name and ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’ is a stand out album, I could honestly listen to this from dusk until dawn, essentially, this is epic NWOBHM.
